If you want to keep Forever&Ever in a pot, then make sure you have a large enough pot that has a drainage hole underneath to allow any excess water to run out, which helps to prevent root rot. Then remove the old pot and place the Dipladenia in a new pot, so that the root ball is a few centimetres below the edge. Fill the pot with potting compost or peat and press down firmly. It is useful to keep the soil about 1 to 2 centimetres below the edge of the pot, to keep it from overflowing when you water the Dipladenia. A Dipladenia in a pot or in a tub needs very little water. With only minimum water, this originally southern European species will flower abundantly.
Dig a hole that is twice the size of the root ball. Sprinkle plenty of potting compost or peat into the hole. Remove the plant from the old pot. Wake up the root system by purposely damaging the root ball here and there. You do so by squeezing it here and there, to stimulate root re-growth. Place the Dipladenia in the hole, fill the hole with soil and press down firmly. Give it plenty of water after planting.
There’s no need to fertilise the Dipladenia. It already has plenty of nutrients for the full flowering season.
If you want to transplant the Dipladenia, make sure you choose a new pot that is quite a lot bigger. Use fresh potting compost and add a slow-release fertiliser if you wish. Remove the plant from the old pot, waking up the root system by purposely damaging the root ball here and there. You do so by squeezing it here and there, to stimulate root re-growth. Place the plant in the new pot and carefully fill the sides with potting compost. Press down gently and give the plant plenty of water. Maintenance is otherwise the same as plants in open ground.
If you want to prune your Dipladenia to promote growth, simply snip off the branches above the leaves.
The Dipladenia needs very little water. With only minimum water, this originally southern European species will flower abundantly. While it must not be allowed to dry out, it must certainly not be too wet.
Forever&Ever is hardy to -25 degrees Celsius. They are pretty robust plants! If your Dipladenia is in a pot, then we do recommend covering it when temperatures reach -3 degrees.
If the plants have buds, they may freeze during frosty weather! So any plants with buds will need protection from frost. The best way to do so is to tie a blanket over the plants, covered with a layer of bubble plastic.
The Dipladenia is an annual. It will flower until the first frost.
